The winning ways continued for the Johnston/North Providence Co-op hockey team on Friday night, with JNP shutting out Narragansett/Chariho Co-op, 5-0, at the University of Rhode Island’s Boss Arena, improving the team’s Division III record to 2-0.

Senior Brandon Tanguay led the way for the Panthers once again with a four-point night on one goal and three assists. Zach Bernier also had a big game for JNP with two goals.

Bernier started the scoring at 4:20 of the first period, the lone goal in the first frame, off assists from Tanguay and Zach Morin.

Early in the second period, JNP was able to capitalize on a power play chance when Tanguay and Justin Blais set up Bernier. His second tally in as many periods gave the Panthers a 2-0 edge.

Ryan DiLorenzo upped the JNP lead off an assist from Nathan Nye to make it a 3-0 game heading into the second intermission.

JNP kept the momentum rolling in the third period, as well. Tanguay assisted to Christian Campbell under five minutes into the final frame, before Tanguay scored his lone goal unassisted a couple minutes later to make it 5-0.

The Panthers also saved some goals for their meeting with Mount Hope on Saturday, as JNP’s offense exploded in an 11-2 rout of the Huskies.

JNP is now tied with Pilgrim atop the Division III standings with identical 3-0 records. The Panthers will return to action on Saturday when they host Scituate/Woonsocket Co-op at the Rhode Island Sports Center at 7:05 p.m.

If the two teams continue to win, JNP and Pilgrim will break the first-place tie when they meet for the first time next Saturday, also at 7:05 p.m. at the Rhode Island Sports Center.
