JLL All-Stars battling in district tournaments

The Johnston Little League All-Stars had a busy week as they contine to battle in the District I playoffs. Here is a look at how some of the JLL teams fared.
The JLL 12’s won their first game in a 15-0 thumping of Elmwood. Ryder Calabro propelled the JLL bats by hitting a grand slam while Nico Capobianco added a bases-clearing triple. Pitchers Jordan Diclo and Eric Ferrerra combined to shut out Elmwood on the mound.
The 12’s then went on to face Cranston Western and fell 8-0. Johnston was held to only two hits in the loss.
Despite the defeat, the 12’s would bounce back to roll past North Providence in a 9-1 decision to remain in the hunt.
Brody Staplins would get things going at the plate with a home run while Ferrerra had two hits. Michael DeAngelis also had a pair of hits and an RBI while Liam Shields added a two-run single. JLL’s offense exploded for all nine of its runs in the third inning. Calabro, Ferrerra and DeAngelis held the NPLL bats in check on the mound for JLL.
The JLL 11’s most recently fell to Cranston Western in a 4-0 no hitter. Mike Orsini pitched five innings for JLL and recorded five strikeouts.
The 11’s started off the tournament with a 9-2 loss to North Providence but rebounded to beat Elmwood 5-4. JLL then would beat Fox Point, 16-6.
