Holiday flare promised at Johnston PTSO’s Holly Fair

It’s important, interesting and impressive.

It supports the students and faculty at Johnston High School.

It’s called the Holly Fair and the Dec. 3 event is one of two major fundraising activities of the Johnston Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) (the other is the February Calendar Raffle).

Proceeds from the Holly Fair also fund scholarship awards each year for two deserving graduating seniors as well as a gift for each graduating senior.

“We are all excited about our annual Holly Fair and we are proud to serve the Johnston High school community,” said Lance Niles, who is in his second year as president after succeeding Melissa Patron. “We’ve received lots of interest from many, many vendors who will be on hand Saturday, Dec. 3 at Johnston High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.”

Admission is, as always, free and there will be plenty of parking at Johnston High School for people who want to do some early Christmas shopping.

Niles announced, “We will be hosting 40 local vendors of various handmade crafts and novel gift items and we invite everyone to bring the family and either start and/or finish your holiday shopping.”

Although much of the event will take place in the spacious JHS cafeteria, vendors will also be set up in the corridors to allow vendors to better showcase their wares and offer shoppers a chance to view the many, many items on sale.

Meanwhile, ladies like Tiffany DiBiasio, Jenn Irons, Tanya Martins, Rachel Salvatore and Debbie McHale — who make up the all-volunteer presenting committee — will tell you the Holly Fair is the perfect place to purchase the perfect present.

“The Holly Fair will have plenty of varieties to chooses from,” Niles said. “If you need a gift for a teacher, co-worker, mail carrier, family member of just something special for yourself, the Holly Fair will be able fill all your needs.”

In keeping with the Holly Fair’s storied tradition, the cafeteria will be decked out with holiday decorations and there will be food and refreshments from chicken wings to coffee and snacks.

“Rumor has it we will get a very special visit from our favorite friend who will be coming to Johnston from his home in the North Pole,” Niles said. “Yes, you guessed it: Santa Claus and a few of his friends will make a special guest appearance in Johnston that will make our 11th annual Holly Fair even more special.”
