The Apponaug girls softball program recently honored Russell Freeman by naming Field 3 at Winslow Park in his name. Freeman, who was a mainstay in local youth athletics and a longtime correctional officer in nearby Cranston, passed away due to complications from COVID-19 last December. Present at the ceremony was his wife Lisa, as well as his children Ingrid, Stone and Quinn. Pictured is the Freeman family receiving a celebratory plaque in his honor.
