The Warwick Fire Department will host their annual Fire Safety Day Open House Saturday at Station 8 located at 1651 Post Road from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Fire Chief Peter McMichael said that last year they weren’t able to hold the yearly event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year they decided to keep an eye on the number of cases before ultimately reaching the decision of having it this year.
“We wanted to make sure we were going to be able to do it in a nice safe way,” said McMichael.
The rain or shine event will have numerous activities including a jaws of life heavy/ duty rescue demonstration, a Warwick Police Department Bike Safety demonstration and a tour of the fire safety trailer. The Fire Department will also have their fire and rescue trucks on display and will have guest appearances by officers Friendly and McGruff.
Free Halloween safety gifts will be offered there and pizza and refreshments will be served. A free raffle will also be taking place at 1:30 p.m.
McMichael said the event will be similar to past years and since it will be outside they feel that it will be a benefit for the safety of those attending.
“It’s an ideal event for the COVID situation,” said McMichael.
Public parking will be available for the event in front of the former Ann & Hope Bargain Outlet.
