Festival Ballet emerges with outdoor performances

Posted

Festival Ballet emerges with a vengeance, performing live for the first time since March 2020 with a program that will delight dance lovers and remind their fans that they have not been sitting idle for the past year.

Festival Director Kathleen Breen Combes told the opening night audience that the dancers had been keeping in shape at the Hope Street studios during the pandemic, and it was obvious they hadn’t missed a step.

Performing on a large stage in the Hope Outdoor Theatre (a.k.a. parking lot) at 825 Hope St., the company performed five varied dances under a blue sky with birds flying overhead and the aroma of cooking from nearby restaurants.

Opening with “Same,” a modern, energetic, innovative dance choreographed by Yury Yanowsky, the company then performed two world premieres followed by a breathtaking pas de deux starring Eugenia Zinovieva and Mamuka Kikalishvili.

The program closed with the colorful “Don Quixote Wedding Suite, featuring principals Charlotte Nash and Azamat Asangul.

What a brilliant start to a new summer season, which will be followed by “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.”

There are a few tickets left for performances on June 24 at 6 p.m., the Gala on June 25 at 6 p.m., June 26 at 5 p.m., and June 27 at 4 p.m.

Tickets at $50 may be purchased by visiting festivalballetprovidence.org. In the event of rain, they will contact you the day of the performance with up-to-date information.
