Feinstein visits Winsor Hill Jr. Scholars

Local philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein paid a visit to Winsor Hill Elementary School last Friday, congratulating them on all of their good deeds as Feinstein Junior Scholars and updating them on the recent Jr. Scholar news both locally and abroad.

He also brought with him two checks totaling over $5,700 to be used toward school programs and needs.

He specifically recognized fifth-grader Michael Mousseau for a recent good deed. Moussseau has ran his own food drive on Halloween night with his older sister, Madison, and his younger brother, Max, for the past three years. Each year, the Mousseau family passes out fliers throughout the neighborhood and brings their wagon out that night, collecting food for the local food shelter. Michael’s parents, Michelle and Michael, were present for the event.

Feinstein told the students that there are 137 Feinstein schools and over 100,000 Junior Scholars, including some in Haiti and Honduras.

He brought each student a Jr. Feinstein Scholar Card, which allows the students and one adult to get into many area attractions for free, and he reminded them how proud he was of them for all of their hard work.

“Thank you for your canned good drive. With the food you brought in, you helped my national campaign to fight hunger,” he said.

Feinstein also brought with him newly published journals in which the students can put photos of themselves, record good deeds they’ve done and read messages from other scholars around the world. He explained to the students at Winsor Hill that the students in Honduras refer to them as their heroes.

“You are their heroes. Do you know what it means to be someone’s hero?” he asked.

Feinstein referred to the future when he spoke to the students at the end of the program.

“Someday your teachers and I are going to be gone and you are going to take over for us,” he reminded the students. “Your mom and dad are going to be so proud tonight when you show them this, and when you have children and you show your children, they are going to be proud of you, too, because you are a hero and I admire you.”
