The Cranston West Falcons went to Narragansett last Friday night and shut out the Mariners 3-0 during a Boys Division II Soccer battle.

Sam Naiefeh, a junior winger, topped West with two goals.

“Sam Naiefeh is a key piece to this program,” Falcons head coach Yair Correa said. “Phenomenal player on the ball. Very wise, very smart, as well, tactically. Physically, he’s there. He’s actually one of the wrestlers for Cranston West, as well. So, he knows how to put his body on other people. He performed very well. He came through like he always does. And to be quite frank with you, I’m not surprised. This is what he’s about.”

Kyle Fay, a central midfielder, added the third goal.

“Very important and a vital part to our program, as well,” Correa said. “Senior, so, very experienced. He’s one of the leaders on the team. He’s the leading goal scorer for us. And it’s rare to be the leading goal scorer if you’re the central midfielder.”

“He performed very well,” Correa continued. “The kid’s very composed. One of the best technical players that I’ve seen in high school sports this year. Without everybody else on the team though, Kyle wouldn’t be performing the way he is. So, thanks to the other ten, Kyle Fay is actually succeeding and performing the way he is. Without everybody else, there is no Kyle Fay. And without Kyle Fay, there is no Cranston West.”

Seniors Sami Hmiddouche and Aidan Hay registered an assist each while the Falcons performed like a well-oiled machine.

“This is a testament to the players that we have on this program,” Correa said. “Very selfless individuals. They really understand their role. They understand their responsibility. They understand what the team is about.”

“It’s not me, it’s we,” Yair said. “And because of this, we’re able to put up performances like this where players are selfless. And when you’re unselfish in a team sport, man, good things happen. It’s just how it goes.”

The Falcons improved to 8-2 in the league with the win. West hosted Westerly this past Tuesday, but that score was unavailable at press time. The Falcons host Coventry next on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
