Childers, Patricia

Posted

Patricia Childers died peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024, in her own bed surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rhode Island, 1932. She was an Army BRAT, moving often and spending a few years in Korea.

Patricia remembered attending war crime trials in Germany, and at a young age, knew the significance of that day.

She graduated from the 1st class of Boston College School of Nursing in 1955. Patricia worked at Boston Children’s Hospital and also taught nursing. She met her husband, Dr. Henry Childers, Jr. and married in 1955. Together they founded the Cranston Animal Hospital on Park Ave., Cranston in 1956. They moved to Edgewood, raised 5 children, and resided on Bluff Avenue for 58 glorious years.

She ran the Cranston Animal Hospital and her five children. Patricia was the glue that held everything together. Pretty much the women behind the curtain that made everything run smoothly.

Patricia was predeceased by Henry, only by months. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in January. She leaves a daughter Patricia Childers and her son Oliver; son Henry Childers IV, his wife Nina and their sons Henry V and Max; daughter Alyce Childers; daughter Caroline Childers Audet, her husband Jeff and their children Clayton, Jax and Emma; and sons, the late Henry Childers III and the late John Childers.

She also leaves her sister-in-law Sally Redihan who has been a wonderful confidant for 75 years. Patricia’s cats and dogs miss her dearly, still waiting for her on the bed.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, September 6, 2024, in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Rd., North Kingstown.
