For the past 17 years Warren “Buddy” Kean has owned and operated The Bottom Line bar on Palmer Avenue across from the entrance to Rocky Point Park. Now he’s packing up and moving to Hawaii where he’ll be near to family. On Saturday his friends and extended family of patrons threw him a party that extended well into the evening. There were no speeches, however there was plenty of good food, lots of stories and, naturally, a cake. Buddy said he was audited more than once and the tax people couldn’t believe the bottom line wasn’t bigger. Buddy pointed out the establishment was more profitable when Rocky Point was an amusement park but now it’s a neighborhood institution off the beaten path. He hasn’t dismissed thoughts of opening a bar in Hawaii. And what might it be called? He toyed around with a few names – First In Line, W hat a Line, No Waiting in Line ….it could happen, because on Saturday Buddy didn’t look ready to retire. He’s pictured here with Joann Savage, one of many regulars who turned out to wish him well. (Warwick Beacon photo)
