The Providence Art Club will feature paintings by local artist Ruth B. Dugdale in a solo exhibit called “Transitions” to be held in the club’s Dodge House Gallery from March 18 to April 6.

Dugdale, a winner of many awards from a variety of prestigious local art clubs and shows, is a Providence artist who maintained a studio on Thames Street for 30 years. She now works out of her home. The main body of her work is in oils, but she enjoys the challenge of watercolor and has received awards in both media. She studied painting in Italy and has exhibited widely in New England. Her art graces many private collections.

The theme of “Transitions” will be barns and farmscapes.

“These structures dot the landscape of our backcountry roads,” said Dugdale. “They stand in the hazy blue distance of the hillsides and meadows, deserted by families who once worked and lived on the land … they appear to be monuments of a bygone era, and will soon disappear, victims of the climate to which they are exposed.”

The Providence Art Club is at 11 Thames St. For more information, see www.providenceartclub.org.

“Ruth has had many exhibits and has quite a following,” said Nicole Marucci, gallery coordinator. “She’s been in many combined exhibits, but her work really merits a show of its own.”
