A holiday celebration for the history books

Posted

The Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield hosted a holiday event Sunday with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and many of their historic friends. Families that visited the 315-year-old property enjoyed hearthside cooking, gingerbread treats and learning more about holidays during Colonial times. Volunteers in Colonial costume educated guests, while members of the St. Anthony's Choir and harpist Mary King provided entertainment for the day. The Smith-Appleby House is located at 220 Stillwater Road in Smithfield. For more information, visit their website at www.smithapplebyhouse.org.

Want more holiday happenings? Head to Johnston War Memorial Park Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. for the annual Holiday Festival. Santa will be there for photos with kids all day, and hayrides will run from 12 to 2.
