Sports Freelancer Opportunity
Do you love keeping score or watching a buzzer beater? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
Beacon Media, home of the Warwick Beacon, Cranston Herald, and Johnston Sun Rise, seeks freelance writers to cover local and high school sports (having a camera is a plus).
Qualifications
- Previous professional writing experience. Sports-related reporting preferred.
- Undergraduate or graduate studies counts toward experience.
- Excellent communications skills, particularly writing on deadline
- Strong internet research abilities
- Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and objectivity
Details
- Primary coverage will be high school sports across our three communities, with occasional human interest and enterprise features. Freelance writers welcome to pitch stories that they come across.
- Communicate primarily via email and phone, with occasional in-person visits at our office at 1944 Warwick, Ave. Warwick, RI.
- Reliable, regular transportation is required for covering games/stories
- Compensation per story and/or photo commensurate with experience
Freelancer Responsibilities
- Report: Cover local sports games and events.
- Interview: Conduct interviews with coaches, players and other community sport leaders
- Write: Produce compelling articles and features.
Additional opportunities may exist for aspiring photographers. Previous experience shooting action photos a plus, as well as owning a DSLR camera.
