 LARCENY

Around 10:30 a.m., Jan. 26, Warwick police responded to police headquarters to investigate a reported larceny.

A Warwick man met with police and explained that he parked his 2005 Toyota pick-up truck in the parking lot of the Target store, 400 Bald Hill Road at the Warwick Mall, while he worked from 6 to 11 a.m.

After his shift, he returned to his vehicle and upon leaving heard a loud noise coming from his muffler. He realized his catalytic converter had been stolen. The vehicle part was valued around $1,000.

Police responded to Target and obtained video footage of the incident, which will be forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

At 11:23 a.m., Feb. 1, Warwick police responded to the Radisson Hotel for the report of a stolen catalytic converter.

The victim, a Houston, Texas woman, told police that when she started her Honda CRV, which was parked in the rear parking lot of the hotel, it sounded loud and the exhaust came into the interior of her vehicle.

“(The victim) stated that this noise was familiar to her, due to the fact that her catalytic converter was stolen a month prior,” Warwick Police Officer Nicholas E. Demarco wrote in the incident report. “(The victim) stated that her vehicle has been parked at the Radisson for the past 5 days, and hasn’t started it since noticing the converter was missing.”

A report was taken, though there was no video surveillance capturing the incident.

FORGERY & COUNTERFEITING

At 11:17 a.m., Feb. 5, Warwick police officers were dispatched to the lobby of Warwick Police Headquarters after receiving a report of an incident of fraud.

The victim told police that he had put a personal bank check in the mail for the amount of $44.24, and that the check was made out to Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

The victim said that he believes that at some point the check was stolen, either from the mailbox or while in transit.

He told police that the check was forged to the amount of $2,000 and paid to the order of “Destiny Justason.”

The victim contacted his bank, which advised him that the check was cashed at a bank in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and the money was withdrawn from his account.

The victim provided police with a copy of the cashed check.

“Case to be closed out due to lack of documentation,” Warwick Police Officer Frank J. Montanaro wrote in the incident report.

DUI

At 2:17 a.m., Feb. 4, Warwick police were on patrol southbound on Route 95 in the area of Exit 14, when they observed a gray 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Florida registration, driving at a high rate of speed without lights.

“I further observed the vehicle to be swerving back and forth between lanes without utilizing its turn signal,” Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray wrote in the incident report. “It should be noted I attempted to catch up to the vehicle, accelerating to 120 miles per hour and was unable to catch up to it.”

The SUV allegedly swerved around a traffic light and weather conditions were rainy. Ultimately the vehicle abruptly slowed down and took Exit 12B onto East Avenue westbound.

Gray then initiated a traffic stop, and after allegedly traveling a while longer, the vehicle finally stopped.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was later identified as Richard Argiro Alzate, 152 Main St., Scituate.

Gray wrote that he smelled alcohol in the vehicle and the driver showed signs of intoxication. He consented to a series of field sobriety tests.

He was charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), and Driving with a Suspended/Revoked/Canceled License (third offense). He received a Third District Court date of Feb. 15. He was also issued a summons for Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (first offense), Reasonable and Prudent Speeds, and Times When Lights Required.
