Veterans Day events planned in Warwick

Aspen Dental’s Day of Service      

In recognition of Veterans Day, Aspen Dental locations nationwide will open their doors to provide free care to military veterans across the country. Spouses and significant others are also eligible for free appointments. Locally it will be taking place at  1000 Bald Hill Road, and at   1384 Atwood Avenue in Johnston on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Veterans can call 1-844-277-3646 (1-844-ASPENHMM) to find a location and schedule an appointment. Advance appointments are required.

Veterans' Day Breakfast

Bishop Hendricken High School and Iggy's Boardwalk Restaurant will honor those who have served with a free Veterans' Day Breakfast on Thursday, Nov.11.Veterans will eat for free and may choose between two searing times at Iggy's Boardwalk in Warwick: 8:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. Takeout will also be available every half hour from 8:30am-10am at the restaurant's takeout window. All veterans are invited to attend and should RSVP to Peter Thomas '86 at 401-889-5424 or pthomas@hendricken.com by Monday, Nov. 8. On Wednesday, Nov.10  Fr. Marciano will also host a prayer service in honor of Veterans' Day at 1 p.m. in the War Memorial Prayer Garden on campus. All are invited to attend; no RSVP required.

Holliman Elementary School Veterans’ Day Celebration 

Holliman Elementary School will be hosting a Veteran’s Day Celebration Wednesday, Nov. 10 starting at 10 a.m. at the school. Those attending will assemble in the front parking lot near the flagpole, and are asked to arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. if possible. The ceremony will be followed by light refreshments for the Holliman Community Veterans and their families along with local dignitaries in attendance. Those planning on attending should RSVP by Nov. 5 to HollimanPTA@gmail.com. 

Warwick Neck Elementary School Veterans’ Day Celebration 

Students will be honoring Veterans with choral songs and reflections, a reading of local Veteran names, and remarks offered by City and military officials on Tuesday, Nov.9. The event will be taking place outdoors in the back of the school.  Seating opens at 9:30 a.m. and the program begins at 10 a.m. Seating reservations can be made by calling the Principal, Frank Galligan, at 401-734-3480. Masks are requested to be worn. The morning program is being offered in conjunction with the Warwick Neck Improvement Association. 

Cold War Service presentation 

On Thursday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. Mayor Frank Picozzi along with Rep. Camille Vella Wilkinson will be dedicating the Cold War Service Medal to the Armed Forces who served honorably during the Cold War. The presentation will take place during an event at Veterans Park outside of Warwick Vets Middle School. The medallion will be affixed to the boulder put in place before the tree planting ceremony at the park. It will be the first Cold War Veterans monument in Warwick that is specifically dedicated to the men and women who served during the Cold War.
