Steeds from the Providence Mounted Command, Riley ridden by Jose Mendez and Charlie ridden by Douglas Gould visited St. Rose of Lima School Friday to lead off the school walk-a-thon, one of the school’s major fundraisers to provide tuition assistance to needy families. Upper level students, accompanied by a police escort walked around City Park as part of a five-mile trek while lower grades, including kindergarteners completed shorter routes either around the school or in the neighborhood. The event included a raffle and when everyone was back at school a visit from Kona Ice. Kindergarten teachers Kayla Dias and Marissa Riley were key walk organizers. Third graders wore their Hope Shirts that teacher Jen Liddle, who is a St. Rose alumni, had her students hand block. The walk also involved some colorful dusting of students.
