Every year of business is important to acknowledge, which is why Julie Meisler and Ted Torti – co-owners of Ted’s Stadium Kitchen and Pub on Park Avenue – celebrated their business’s sixth anniversary with cake and a small gathering Tuesday. Helping commemorate this year’s anniversary with Meisler, Torti and their staff were Mayor Ken Hopkins, Deputy Chief of Staff Paul McAuley and Director of Economic Development Franklin Paulino.

Meisler and Torti are Cranston West graduates who connected 35 years after high school and saw the opportunity to create a local “watering hole” that could serve the community; they wanted a restaurant that created wholesome, home-cooked food at an affordable price. Torti had been in the restaurant business his whole life and his passion for food led him to running high-end restaurants.

The restaurant prides itself on making everything to order – there’s no microwave or pre-frozen foods in this kitchen. Ted’s Stadium Kitchen and Pub makes its own sauces, dressings and grinds its own beef. While it’s difficult to determine the most popular meals that people order, Meisler said the restaurant is known for its burgers, seafood stuffy (which consist of clams, scallops and shrimp) and specials (which are sold after 5 p.m. and usually sell out). If you’re music to enjoy with your food, the venue provides live, outdoor patio music on weekends.

The building is an oldie but goodie as it was built almost 100 years ago and has been remodeled by Meisler and Torti. Meisler described the venue as being “like Cheers, but very elevated.” She said the 12-person staff is one happy family and that they’ve created lasting friendships from the business. Meisler said she and Torti have even vacationed with two of their bartenders – traveling to Las Vegas and Tahoe.

In addition to their yearly anniversary party, Ted’s Stadium Kitchen and Pub hosts annual Christmas parties where they give away gifts to customers.

Meisler said she’s proud that the business made it through Covid. She added that most restaurants don’t make it their first year and Ted’s Stadium has made it because of hard work, a dedicated staff and – of course – quality food. (Submitted photo)
