The Johnston Senior Center “Spotlite” this week shines on one of our most devoted members, Algeria Vaughn-Bailey. Algeria, a former K-12 teacher in the Chicago Public Schools, holds advanced degrees in education. She also taught at the Chicago Juvenile Detention Center, and has made working with children her life work. Recently, Algeria has mentored and tutored middle school students here in Johnston. Algeria is also our resident Notary Public, which comes in very handy and convenient for our many members. Algeria comes to the center about four days per week and enjoys exercise class, day trips, bingo, and just about any other program of interest offered. Algeria, who resides in town, says most of all she enjoys the “people” in the center and that means everybody. One thing is for sure, we all enjoy Algeria’s presence and her commitment to helping others.
Editor’s Note: Richard J. DelFino Jr. serves as Executive Director of the Johnston Senior Center, at 1291 Hartford Ave., Johnston. The Johnston Sun Rise regularly publishes a senior profile, called “Senior Spotlite,” submitted by the senior center.
