Cranston’s School Committee will fill the empty Ward 1 seat at its June 13 meeting. Two individuals are being considered for the position. They are Keith Catone and Jeff Gale. The vacancy comes following the resignation of Sara Tindall-Woodman on April 4.

School Committee Chair Daniel Wall had those interested in filling the post send their resumes and a letter of intent to him.

During the June 13 meeting, each candidate will make a statement and present themselves to the School Committee. Following each presentation, the candidates will be asked a series of questions; each question will be the same for each candidate.

After the School Committee makes nominations, they will take a vote, and the person with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner and sworn in as the new Ward 1 School Committee representative.

According to the Cranston School Committee’s home rule charter, after the first six months of the elected representatives term, any vacancy in the council or school committee should be filled by the council or school committee, respectively, for the unexpired portion of the term.

In selecting a replacement for Ward 1, Wall intends to follow the same procedure that was followed when the School Committee appointed replacements in the past.
