Camille Vella-Wilkinson, Memorial Day services that included the laying of a wreath at Veterans Park in front of Veterans Memorial Middle School, a ceremony in preparation of the burning of old and tattered American flags and comments from elected officials was held Monday morning. Mayor Frank Picozzi said we honor our veterans for the freedoms we enjoy daily. City Council President Steve McAllister observed that last year’s Memorial Day ceremony was cancelled and it was wonderful to come back. “This is one of the events that needs to continue,” he said. Chaplain James Hickey read a prayer; the Fire Department provided the color guard and Warwick School Committee member Nathan Cornell played taps. (Warwick Beacon photos)
