Responding to community needs, Westbay Marketplace with the assistance of Plates with Purpose and the Scituate and East Greenwich Lions Clubs gave out 100 ready to eat meals and 230 boxes of food and 230 boxes of household products from paper towels to laundry detergent Saturday morning from the marketplace on Jefferson Boulevard. Plates with a Purpose has been raising funds that it in turns uses to buy meals from restaurants impacted by the pandemic. In this case Iggy’s prepared the bagged meals that included sandwiches. Members of the two Lions Clubs boxed the food and household products in preparation for distribution as well as assisting on Saturday. The food and household products were provided through donations from the RI Community Food Bank, local drives and by corporate supporters. Paul Salera, executive director of Westbay Community Action aims to make the drive through pantry a quarterly event. (Text and photos by John Howell)
