What was formerly the house of the Rocky Point Amusement Park caretaker was leveled Monday morning. “DEM has been planning for this demolition since the previous caretaker vacated the house because it has outlived its lifespan and is dangerous,” DEM spokesman Michael Healey wrote in an email. He said DEM previously identified and removed hazardous building materials from the property and it was not feasible to consider rehabbing it to meet current safety and health codes. Healey said demolition of the house is one of a series of projects across the DEM enterprise to remove blighted structures to reduce the state’s risk exposure. “We have no plans for development at this site or at the corner of Palmer and Rocky Point avenues. Both sites were part of DEM’s acquisition of the 80 acres at Rocky Point,” he said. The work was done by AA Wrecking. (Warwick Beacon photo)
