With a freshly painted red, white and blue stripe, Narragansett Parkway and Broad Street are ready for the June 12 Gaspee Day Parade, which steps off from Spring Green Street in Warwick at 10 a.m. Community contributions of more than $62,000 made the parade possible. That afternoon, an new all-steel Gaspee suitable to be burned year after year will make its debut burning in Pawtuxet Cove. The vessel, built on a floating trailer, was commissioned in 2019 and made possible with two grants, said Gaspee Days Committee Chair Gina Dooley, who showed off the craft Friday soon after its delivery from the Steel Yard in Providence. Hay will be stuffed in the hull over a trough that will contain kerosene.
