In a quirky and cheerful celebration of warmer weather, large flocks of pink lawn flamingos have found their way to Garden City Center. More than 300 of the iconic birds, first designed by Massachusetts artist Don Featherstone in 1957, are currently perched in and around the Gazebo area to greet shoppers young and old.
“We’re constantly looking for ways to bring moments of surprise and delight to the Garden City community, even more so now as we enter this post-pandemic world,” said Faith Lockhart, Garden City Center’s marketing manager. “Our flamingo installation allows visitors to find humor in the unusual, the absurd and unexpected when they visit our property. We are always looking to create special experiences for the community and hope guests at our property smile ear to ear when they pass by our Gazebo this spring.”
The 300 pink birds, one of the most famous lawn ornaments in the United States, are on display at Garden City Center’s Gazebo lawn now through April 27.
