The Council Round-up is a digest of licenses, appointments and other proceedings from the Johnston Town Council’s June 8 meeting. This month’s meeting was held via Zoom because of the coronavirus pandemic.

LICENSES

The council unanimously approved business operating licenses, one for storage only, for Shannon Motors locations at 13 Bucklin St. and Railroad Aveue AP 36 Lot 8.

The council approved a business operating license for Rigger Environmental Solutions, located at 51 Green Hill Road.

The council approved a business operating license for phone calls only for JBL Power Washing, located at 5 Stromberg Court.

The council approved hawker/peddler licenses for Keystone Fireworks for two locations, at 1395 Atwood Ave. and 1500 B Hartford Ave. The licenses cover the tent sales of legal sparkler products from June 25 to July 5 and June 24 to July 5, respectively.

The council approved a business operating license for phone calls only for Sign Gypsies Ocean State, located at 15 Allendale Ave.

The council approved a business operating license for University Orthopedics, located at 1524 Atwood Ave.

The council approved a business operating license for RI Used Tires and Services, located at 471 George Waterman Road.

The council approved a business operating license for Union Concrete Construction Corp., located at 30 River Ave.

The council approved a business operating license for Anthony L. Traversa, located at 454 George Waterman Road.

The council approved a business operating license for Minuteman Press of Johnston, located at 1999 Plainfield Pike.

The council approved a business operating license for JLS Hair Design, located at 256 Greenville Ave. NEW BUSINESS

The council set aside a brief moment to congratulate the class of 2020 at Johnston High School, who will celebrate their commencement this Friday evening.

The council approved a resolution awarding a bid and authorizing Mayor Joseph Polisena to enter into an agreement for the rental and maintenance of uniforms and related for town employees.

The council approved a resolution awarding a bid and authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement for refuse/recyclable yard waste collection and disposal services.

The council unanimously rejected a petition from Lucy Heelon requesting relief for extension of sewer lines at 31 Hemlock Drive. PUBLIC HEARING

The council continued the public hearing on an ordinance set to amend several sections of the town code, including definitions and word usage, table of use regulations, flexible design residential projects, site plan review and approval for commercial and business uses, unified development review and substandard lots of record. The matter will be discussed during the July 13 meeting.
