RIC shines at LEC Championship

Senior Trinity Hayes (Providence) captured individual titles in both the 200m and 400m as Rhode Island College finished fourth (eight teams) at the 2022 Little East Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Rhode Island College finished fourth (eight teams) with a team score of 75.0. Southern Maine won the title with a team score of 207.0.

Hayes was the Little East Champion and earned First Team All-Little East honors with first place finishes in both the 200m (25.93) and the 400m (57.69). She also earned Second Team All-Little East honors in the 4x400m relay with a second place finish (4:25.01). Additionally, Hayes finished fifth in the 4x100m (52.44), eighth in the 100m (13.95) and 10th in the long jump (4.27m).

Freshman Hayley Chartier (North Scituate) was the Little East Champion and earned First Team All-Little East honors in the hammer (48.88m) and placed seventh in both the shot (10.29m) and discus (31.96m).

Freshman Johnna Gallo (West Warwick) earned Second Team All-Little East honors in the 4x400m relay with a second place finish (4:25.01). She placed fifth in both the 800m (2:36.84) and the 4x100m (52.44) and was sixth in the 400m (1:04.63).

Senior Jaime Moretti (Warwick) earned Second Team All-Little East honors in the 4x400m relay with a second place finish (4:25.01). She also placed fifth in the 4x100m (52.44), seventh in the 100m (13.10), eighth in the long jump (4.45m) and 13th in the 200m (28.60).

Senior Bryana Mullin (Warwick) earned Second Team All-Little East honors in the 4x400m relay with a second place finish (4:25.01). She also placed fifth in the 4x100m (52.44).

Graduate student Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence) earned Second Team All-Little East honors in the hammer with a second place finish (48.51m), placed third in the shot (11.05m) and fourth in the discus (34.12m).

Freshman Samantha Sainristil (Cranston) earned Second Team All-Little East honors in the discus with a second place finish (37.10m). She also placed eighth in the hammer (35.76m) and ninth in the shot (9.79m).

Senior Melissa Mejia (Providence) placed third in the hammer (44.30m) and 11th in the discus (27.49m).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2022 New England Div. III Championship, hosted by Williams on May 6-7.
