RIC shines at Eastern CT

Seniors Shayna Cousineau (Cranston, R.I.) and Jamie Dobson (Bradford, R.I.) each took home first place finishes as the Rhode Island College women’s outdoor track and field team competed at the Eastern Connecticut State Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island College finished fourth (four teams) with a team score of 22.0. Eastern Connecticut (108.0) finished first, followed by Southern Maine (99.0) in second and Keene State (55.0) in third.

Cousineau finished first in the 5,000m (19:09.92). Dobson finished first in the hammer (44.83m) and second in the javelin (33.18m). Senior Bryana Mullin (Warwick, R.I.) finished fourth in the 800m (2:37.29).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Little East Championship, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, May 1 (11 a.m.).

Manzo takes 1st

Senior Raffaelo Manzo (Slatersville, R.I.) finished first in the 1,500m (4:19.09) as the Rhode Island College men’s outdoor track and field team finished third (four teams) at the Eastern Connecticut State Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island College finished third (four teams) with a team score of 43.0. Southern Maine (119.0) finished first, followed by Eastern Connecticut (118.0) in second and Keene State (39.0) in fourth.

Manzo also notched a fourth place finish in the 800m (2:08.19). Junior Matt Thibaudeau (Lincoln, R.I.) finished first in the hammer (51.76m), third in the shot (10.60m) and fifth in the discus (26.53m).

Freshman Christopher McCarthy (Cranston, R.I.) finished third in the hammer (40.96m). Freshman Richard Francazio (Cranston, R.I.) finished third in the discus (29.24m) and sixth in the shot (9.08m). Freshman Michelson Salomon (Providence, R.I.) finished second in the shot (10.81m), discus (30.61m) and hammer (46.46m).

Sophomore Austin Michael (Swansea, Mass.) finished sixth in the 800m (2:08.88). Junior Matt Russom (Fort Kent, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 5,000m (18:13.57).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Little East Championship, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, May 1 (11 a.m.).

Niles named to All-Tourney team

Rhode Island College sophomore William Niles (Warwick, R.I.) was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Anchormen finished third (four teams) at the Little East Invitational played at Valley Country Club on Thursday and Friday, April 23-23.

Niles finished second (24 golfers) with a two-day score of 159 (76, 83; ) to finish in the top five and secure All-Tournament honors. He finished nine strokes back of Eastern Connecticut freshman Ashton Lewis (Fairfield, Conn.), who was the medalist with a score of 150 (76, 74). The pair were tied after the first round.

Sophomore Anthony Loiselle (Providence, R.I.) finished seventh with a 169 (82, 87; ). Sophomore Nate Chhim (Tiverton, R.I.) finished ninth with a 171 (85, 86; ).

RIC junior Justin Lavoie (Lakeville, Mass.) finished 10th with a 172 (83, 89; ). Senior Matt Malo (Cranston, R.I.) finished 20th with a 199 (101, 98; ). Senior Stephan Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) finished 21st with a 201 (103, 98; ).
