With more than 40,000 points, Bishop Hendricken High School secured their eleventh consecutive win in the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon held virtually on March 7. Led by first-time decathlon coach Leeanne Soprano, Hendricken was one of eleven schools in the competition. Here, Soprano and Hendricken principal Mark DeCiccio celebrate the return of the perpetual trophy and this year’s keeper trophy. The team now advances to the national competition, where they’ll represent Rhode Island. The US Academic Decathlon Nationals is set to take place virtually, April 29 to May 1. The Rhode Island Academic Decathlon posted a virtual awards ceremony hosted by Channel 12 New Anchor Kim Kalunian on its website Wednesday where the names and photos of students winning more than 100 medals and comments by Gov. Dan McKee are featured. At left is the Hendricken team. (Photos provided by the school and the Warwick Beacon)
