The annual Gaspee Days 5k foot race took place last weekend and boasted a field of runners that exceeded 2,000. Some runners aimed to beat their personal bests and compete for a first-place finish, while others donned their best 18th century garb and took a relaxed stroll through the neighborhood. It was the largest race in its 60-year history.
The big news of the event was Rachel Schilkowsky, who was the top female finisher and broke the course record with a time of 16:09.6. Schilkowsky broke the previous record of 16:22 set by Amy Rudolph in 2003. Gilmar Silvestre was the top overall male finisher.
