One of the most familiar pieces in an orchestra’s repertoire, Ravel’s “Bolero,” will be featured at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra concert on Friday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
Also on the program will be Jessie Montgomery’s “Rounds” and Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances.”
The program will be led by guest conductor Anna Handler and feature pianist Awadagin Pratt.
The orchestra’s Gala Celebration will feature the return of cellist Yo-Yo Ma on Saturday, May 31 at 5:00 p.m, followed by a 7:00 p.m. reception at the Waterfire Arts Center.
Ma has been a friend of the Rhode Island cultural community for many years, having brought his talent to the Philharmonic in addition to performing with FirstWorks in concerts and educational programs.
