Radiating performance on ‘heartbreaking’ chapter of American history

The Pilgrim Players staged Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory last week at the school auditorium. The two act play lasting nearly two hours is based on the true story of women laborers who were poisoned and died from the radium-based paint used in their factory from 1918 through the 1940s. Most of the narrative is centered in Orange, NJ  in the mid-1920s.

Asked why he chose to perform the Radium Girls,  Richard Dennigham, producer and director of the show, said  a family member recommended a book about the women.

“It was such a striking story that really stayed with me, and when I found the play, I was really happy to stage it. It›s a heartbreaking chapter of American history that very few people know about,” he said.

The school is selling a video recording of the play ($10 DVD or $15 USB Drive/Hi-def). Those interested should contact Denningham via email at: richard.denningham@warwickschools.org.
