ROBBERY CHARGE

On Oct. 13, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Cranston’s Justin Kulas, 40, with one count of First-Degree Robbery.

The alleged act occurred in the city of Providence sometime on March 9, 2022. The Providence Police Department conducted the investigation. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 2 in the Providence County Superior Court.


SEXUAL ASSAULT

At 7:59 p.m. on Oct. 12, Cranston Police arrested Justin Avila, 30, of 25 Fairwood Drive, Cranston, on charges of Domestic First Degree Sexual Assault, Domestic Assault by Strangulation, Domestic Simple Assault, Domestic Refusal to Relinquish Telephone, Domestic Vandalism and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of an attempt pick-up at 25 Fairwood Drive after an Arrest Warrant was issued pursuant to an investigation. Avila awaited arraignment.


DUI

At 4:57 p.m., Sept. 21, Warwick Police were dispatched to the Oakland Beach sea wall at 898 Oakland Beach Ave. to check on the condition of a man.

Upon arrival, the caller told police that he saw a man hiding in the buses earlier “drinking beers.”

He told police the man approached him, and later exited the woods with a beer. The caller told police the man drove off in a silver car.

Warwick Police Officer Nicholas P. DeLuca got into his cruiser and spotted the vehicle as it turned right out of the sea wall onto Stender Boulevard with no turn signal. Police identified the driver as Yonny A. Salcedo Rodriguez, 44, of Cranston.

“I immediately observed (the driver) to have slow movements, as he tried finding his license and registration,” DeLuca wrote in the arrest report. “I observed that his hands were shaking. While speaking with him, I observed his eyes to be severely bloodshot and watery. He spoke in a slurred speech. I detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from upon his breath.”

He consented to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests, he was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (first offense), Turn Signal Required, Presence of an Alcoholic Beverage Operating Riding in a Motor Vehicle.

“It should be noted that Slcedo Rodriguez’s attitude was extremely polite and respectful throughout the entire interaction,” DeLuca wrote. “He had a humorous attitude and stated several times that I was ‘doing the right thing” by arresting him.”


WARRANT

At 2:41 p.m. on Oct. 12, Cranston Police arrested Wendi Withrow, 50, of 2323 Middle Road, East Greenwich, of 60 Hartford Ave., Providence on charges of three Superior Court Bench Warrants and a North Kingstown Arrest and Affidavit Warrant while on follow-up investigation. Withrow was remanded.


ASSAULT

At 12:26 p.m. on Oct. 12, Cranston Police arrested Roudy Greffin, 37, of 9 Sabra St., Apt. B, Cranston, on charges of Domestic Simple Assault and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. Greffin turned himself in at headquarters. Greffin awaited arraignment by a Justice of the Peace.

At 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 11, Cranston Police arrested Marco Northup Jones, 29, of 753 Park Ave., first floor, Cranston, on charges of Domestic Simple Assault. The arrest was the result of a disturbance at the aforementioned address. Jones was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace.


LARCENY OVER $1,500

At 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, Cranston Police arrested Robert Vezina, 35, of 30 Howard Ave., Cranston, on charges of Robbery – Occupant of Motor Vehicle (one count, first degree) and Larceny Over $1,500 (one count). The arrest was a result of a Cranston PD Arrest and Affidavit Warrant from Oct. 10, 2022. Vezina awaited arraignment.


LARCENY UNDER $1,500

At 3 p.m. on Oct. 10, Cranston Police arrested Reinaldo Torres, 37, of 1122 Main St., Coventry, on charges of Larceny Under $1,500. The arrest was the result of RI State Police turning him over to our custody on an Arrest and Affidavit Warrant out of the Cranston Police Department. Torres was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace.
