BENCH WARRANT

On Nov. 9 at 11:30 a.m., officer Aaron Blanco observed a grey SVU traveling on Plainfield Street. DMV checks revealed that the vehicle’s license plate was active to a white Honda.

Officer Blanco initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Raymon Wright, 37, of 176 Simmonsville Ave., Johnston, who “stated that he had just purchased the vehicle and the plates belonged to [the front passenger],” according to police.

Communications personnel advised Wright that he had an active bench warrant from Newport Police Department.

Wright was transported to Johnston Police Headquarters for processing. He was arrested on the warrant and issued a RITT Summons for Improper Use of Evidences of Registration.

Wright was arraigned regarding the bench warrant and released with a new court date in 2nd District Court.

DUI

On Nov. 28 at 1:27 a.m., police observed a motor vehicle traveling southbound on Atwood Avenue at a low rate of speed and with no rear registration plate lights. The vehicle was traveling from the right and left lanes without use of a turn signal.

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as Johnny Rivera, 44, of 45 Angelico St., Johnston.

Rivera had “severely bloodshot and excessively watery eyes, a moderate smell of alcohol emanating from his breath, and mumbled speech,” according to police.

DMV search of the vehicle’s registration plates revealed that the status was suspended and registered to a different vehicle. Further checks revealed that Rivera had a suspended Rhode Island driver’s license.

The officer asked Rivera to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests after seeing an open package of beer in the vehicle. Rivera stated he had consumed four beers which were missing from the package.

Based on his performance during the SFSTs, Rivera was placed under arrest and transported to Johnston Police Headquarters.

He was issued a RITT Summons for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test - 2nd offense, Improper Use of Evidences of Registration, Operation of Unregistered Vehicle, and Laned Roadway Violation.

He was also issued a 3rd District Court Summons for DUI – 1st offense, BAC unknown and Driving with Suspended License – 4th and subsequent offense.
