SHOPLIFTING
On Nov. 8 at 10:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of shoplifting at The Home Depot, 100 Stone Hill Road, Johnston.
Video surveillance shows a male suspect, identified as Adam Corbin, 37, of 30 Lenox Ave., Providence, exiting the store without paying for merchandise that included “two Rigid 18v Reciprocating Saws valued at $198, two Rigid 18v Subcompact Impact Drivers valued at $178 and two Rigid 18v Drill/Circle Saws valued at $298,” according to police.
Officers were able to identify Corbin by a tattoo of “brass knuckles with wings on both sides” on his neck. He was arraigned on Nov. 13.
DRIVING WITH EXPIRED REGISTRATION
On Nov. 13 around 10:45 a.m., police initiated a motor vehicle stop against Owolabi Ashamu, 61, of 139 Sorrento St., Providence, after observing a temporary New Jersey registration plate affixed to his vehicle that expired in March 2024.
He was processed at Johnston Police Headquarters and issued a summons for Driving With an Expired Registration.
BENCH WARRANT ARREST
On Nov. 10, officer Nicholas Bordieri observed a grey Toyota Camry “cross over the double yellow lines and then cross over the white fog line” on Killingly Street, according to police. He initiated a motor vehicle stop.
Procedural checks revealed that the driver, identified as Edwin Varela, 22, of 91 Wisdom Ave., Providence, had an active bench warrant for Driving with Suspended/Revoked License.
Varela was processed at Johnston Police Headquarters and issued a citation for Driving With Suspended/Revoked License and Landed Roadway Violation.
FOOD DRIVE
The Johnston Police Department is collecting non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving for Operation Stand Down. The collection is ongoing until Thanksgiving. The collection box is in the police station at 1651 Atwood Ave.
