Pilgrim High School students from the class of 2027 decided to give up their morning and participated in a litter clean up at Oakland Beach. Fourteen students woke up early on a Sunday morning to represent the sophomore class at Pilgrim and help out the community. Sponsored and coordinated by the class of 2027 executive board, the event was made possible through a $500 dollar grant from the RI Department of Environmental Management. The funds were part of Gov. Dan McKee’s litter free Rhode Island micro-grant program focused on improving the quality of life in communities. With the help of their class administrator, Mrs. Ames, the students set out equipped with garbage bags and gloves to clean up the beach and surrounding area. After three hours of combing the shoreline, the students filled over twenty trash bags and completed a successful community litter clean up. This is one of many community projects the Pilgrim Class of 2027 has in store for the 2024-25 academic year as they continue to seek ways to make an impact to their local community. (Submitted photo)
