Orioles honored by town council

It was fitting, as several people including a grandfather-like gentleman observed Monday night when the Johnston Town Council honored the 2019 Johnston Little League Town Champions inside the Municipal Court House on Atwood Avenue.

“Hey, remember that old slogan – keep kids in sports and out of courts?” said the smiling grey-haired man. “I don’t think we have enough kids playing the game nowadays.”

But the 12 preteens who represented the JLL’s famous black and orange – a.k.a. the Lisi Construction-Johnston Lions Club-sponsored squad – made the most out of their now storybook season that actually concluded at two different sites Monday night.

As noted, the Mike Mousseau-managed O’s were showered with words of praise – and applause – at the outset of Monday night’s Johnston Town Council meeting and later savored their seasonal successes at Pizzeria Romano located at 1571 Atwood Avenue just a baseball throw from the Municipal Court House.

The O’s, who were decked out in their spiffy orange championship T-shirts that featured black lettering, gathered one last time before putting away their gear and Monday night received personalized citations that were signed by Council President Robert V. Russo, Esq., members Linda Folcarelli, Daniel Santilli Jr., Joseph Polisena and Robert J. Civetti.

Civetti, in fact, read the citation as Russo presented each member of the 2019 champs with the citation.

The commendation read, in part, “The Johnston town Council extends its sincere congratulations to the Johnston Little League Orioles on becoming the 2019 Town Champions. The Town of Johnston is proud of your unparalleled athletic accomplishments and honors the outstanding triumph of the Orioles team.”

Members of the Orioles are: Christian Ferrante, Jayden Calcagno, Max Mousseau, Fabian Aleman, Dean Paris, Antonio Morales, Tyler Holton, Anthony Vendetti, Preston Machesseault, Matthew Jones and Ryan Carvalho.

The O’s were coached by Mike Mousseau, Rafael Diaz, Robert Civetti and Assistant Coach Chris Civetti.
