The Town of Johnston proposes to decrease its total property tax levy to $72,362,216 in the 2022-2023 budget year, the total property tax levy this year is $72,400,437. This is a proposed decrease of 0.05% in the tax levy.
There are NO INCREASES in PROPERTY TAX RATES IN THE FISCAL 2022 -2023 BUDGET.
THE MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE TAX HAS BEEN
REPEALED IN THE FISCAL 2022 -2023 BUDGET.
The tax rates are as follows : Property tax rate of $23.24 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for residential real estate, $28.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for commercial real estate and $64.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for tangible personal property, as compared to the current property tax rates of $23.34. per $1,000 of assessed valuation for residential real estate, $28.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for commercial real estate and $64.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for tangible personal property.
A property tax rate of $24.34 for residential real estate, $29.44 for commercial real estate and $65.44 for tangible personal property would be needed in the coming budget year to raise the maximum levy authorized by Section 44-5-2 of the general laws.
The Town of Johnston’s 2022-2023 budget will be considered at 5:00 P.M. ,Wednesday July 13, 2022 at the Town of Johnston Municipal Court located at
1600 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
The above property tax estimates have been computed in a manner approved by the R.I. Department of Revenue.
