There will soon be a new dining and entertainment option on Killingly Street at where Copperfield’s Burger and Beer House used to be.
“Savory Memories,” a restaurant that will also offer live entertainment, will be located at 678 Killingly Street. Owner Jorge Cheverria said he is excited to be opening in Johnston. He said the menu, like the décor, will be eclectic, but that the establishment will also be affordable and family friendly.
“We’re eager to serve the community,” he said, sitting in the large dining area as boxes of glasses were unpacked and workers attended to finishing details. “We want people to feel that this is a place that they are comfortable, and they can afford to come to regularly.”
This is Cheverria’s first time as a restaurant owner, but he has more than a dozen years’ experience in the restaurant business and has worked for area establishments such as Los Andes in Providence, El Mariachi in Taunton, MA, and Condesa Restaurante in Smithfield.
He said he is excited to be partnering with Bobby Nicholson of Johnston who will serve as the new establishment’s music consultant and help ensure there is a variety of entertainment for all tastes.
Nicholson said that there will live performances as well as disc jockeys and comedy acts. He noted that the refurbished interior includes a corner stage near the front windows and the restaurant plans on offering relaxing brunches with entertainment as well. “There will be something for everybody,” he said.
Aaron Epworth has been hired as the executive chef, Cheverria said, and while the menu is still being finessed it will be eclectic with European and South American influences. Epworth, who has a degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University, has more than 30 years’ experience, he said, and was the head chef at the Hilton in Providence.
“I look for constancy of quality and I also cook with a lot of passion,” he said. “I’m always looking to create a dish that people can’t forget and feel like they have to come back and get it again.”
They are planning to open their doors before Christmas.
