Although later than they were thought to be ready, city offices at the saw tooth building in Apponaug, owned by AAA Northeast and site of their Warwick service office are nearing completion. The city is leasing the space, enabling the consolidation of offices in close proximity to City Hall. The 15-year lease that is renewable was shown to save taxpayers over either bonding for construction of a new building at the site of the former annex or renovating the annex that failed to meet code and was damaged after water pipes burst and flooded the building. In addition to difficulties in obtaining materials, AAA has also faced delays in the delivery of furniture for city offices. Meanwhile, the city is soliciting bids on the existing temporary annex in what was once the Buttonwoods elementary school and after being closed became the Buttonwoods Community Center.
