Natasha Delsanto announced her run for State Representative (District 16) on June 28. Delsanto is the daughter of an immigrant family who escaped from Soviet Russian tyranny over 35 years ago and said she is looking to give Cranstonians the representation they deserve.

“Only in America could an immigrant family build a now thriving business with hard work and more hard work. Cranston residents gave us the opportunity and tools to succeed and now it is my turn to repay them for that help,” said Delsanto in a press release.

Delsanto said it is alarming to see the rising social and political divisions in Rhode Island and that nation that led her family to fleeing Russian tyranny.

“Elected officials are advocating defunding our police while crime in our neighborhoods keep rising. Sexual morals of any proclivity are taught in our school’s classrooms even in the 5th and 6th grades. Parents being told they should have no say in what our schools are instructing their children. Indoctrination of children was and is a common practice in Russia. America is better than that and our citizens deserve more. We have shortages of baby food and gas is over $5 a gallon. I have experienced the same deterioration as a child in Russia. We cannot allow this to continue to happen here in our America,” Delsanto said.

Delsanto said the duty of all elected representatives is to do what is best for their constituents and said the current District 16 representative has forgotten that duty.

“If you give me the honor of electing me your State Representative, I make you one promise that I will not ever break, I will always fight for you over special interests and politicians who put their personal interests first. I will not be silent nor go along to get along. I will speak up, shout if I must, to get your interests heard and never be afraid to speak truth to the powerful,” Delsanto said.

Delsanto said she looks forward to meeting residents and asking what kind of representation they want and what issues are important to them.

“I know that some of the issues discussed here are national in scope, but all real change happens in the streets, in our neighborhoods and begins with electing local representatives who really want to bring about real change,” Delsanto said. “I will be that representative and I will fight to bring about the change you deserve.”

She will run as a democrat against Representative Brandon Potter (democrat) who currently holds the District 16 seat and against republican candidate Jason Klas.
