Music on the Hill returns

Posted

Joyce and I sat on the grounds of the Clouds Hill House Museum two years ago to hear the Narragansett Brass Quartet perform as part of the popular Music on the Hill annual summer concert series.

The pandemic put a hold on the series last summer, but we are happy to report that the program will be back this summer, opening this Sunday afternoon, May 30, at 3 p.m. on the beautiful grounds of Clouds Hill.

John M. Pelligrino, artistic director of Music on the Hill, invites the audience to bring their chairs or blankets and social distance on the lawn. Masks are optional for those who are fully vaccinated. There will be no restrooms available.

The hour-long, intermissionless program will open with the appropriate “Fanfare fa la Peri” by Paul Dukas and include music by Byrd, Gabrieli, Scheidt, Hollst and Ewald, closing with selections from Bernstein’s “West Side Story.”

On Wednesday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m., Music on the Hill will present the Miller-Porfiris Duo performing background music to silent films, including “The Great Train Robbery” and Buster Keaton classics. The event will stream live.
