Motorcyclist hospitalized after crash on Airport Road

A 25-year-old man was hospitalized after a Monday night collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Airport Road, according to Warwick Police.

The man, who was operating the motorcycle, was found unresponsive in the westbound lane in the area of 777 Airport Road when officers arrived at approximately 11:36 that night, a statement from police reads.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said, and his injuries were described as “serious.” He was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday.

Police say the adult female operator of the other vehicle involved in the incident, described a four-door Honda Sedan, “did not appear to be physically injured” at the scene. There were no passengers in the Honda.

An initial investigation by police determined that the motorcycle was traveling east on Airport Road when it crossed the center lines and entered the westbound lanes, resulting in a broadside collision with the Honda, which was entering the roadway from a parking lot. The operator of the Honda, along with several witnesses, stopped to assist the motorcyclist.

Police say alcohol “does not appear to be a factor” in the incident, which remains under investigation by the department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Sgt. John Curley in the Traffic Division at (401) 468-4293.
