More than a place to sit

The family of the late Claire (Cerce) Antonelli has dedicated a park bench at Johnston War Memorial Park this past week to honor her life and her enthusiasm for walking.

Claire was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and lifelong resident of Johnston. She passed away last June at the age of 95, but until the age of 90 she enjoyed walking two miles just about every day on the park’s track.

Keeping herself in shape was a priority, and she would preach to everyone she met that “to keep in shape, you need to keep on moving.” She also met many friendly people on her daily visits to the park, which she kept entertained with her quirky way of telling jokes.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vin Jackvony, the JPRD Program Coordinator for his part in helping to keep Claire’s memory alive at the park. (Submitted text and photos)
