Mattiello shows leadership during crisis

Posted

To the Editor:

As the hospitality industry starts our slow road to recovery to an uncertain future, we are dependent on our state leaders enacting forward thinking, smart policy ideas.

One such example is recent legislation introduced by Speaker Mattiello that will allow restaurants to sell beer, wine and cocktails with food orders until the end of 2021. RIHA has been working closely with Speaker Mattiello, Senate President Ruggerio and Governor Raimondo on this legislation over the past several months and thank them for their leadership on this important issue. While there is no magic solution to the challenges facing us, this legislation is an important part of the puzzle of keeping restaurant doors open.

Throughout the pandemic, Speaker Mattiello and the General Assembly have been a ready and available resource for the industry. In addition to sponsoring our Alcohol to Go legislation, Speaker Mattiello appeared on our weekly membership call and the House Small Business Committee invited RIHA to testify on the impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry.

While there is no playbook for preserving an economy during a worldwide pandemic, having leadership that is invested in our recovery is no doubt an essential element.
