Marta Tellado discusses her book on ‘The New Story Is’ with Dave Ursillo

Locally produced podcast, The New Story Is, celebrates a recent interview with Marta Tellado, the president and CEO of Consumer Reports, on her new book, Buyer Aware: Harnessing Our Consumer Power for a Safe, Fair, And Transparent Marketplace, which offers a scathing critique of the modern consumer landscape and calls for consumers to unite in action for a more fair and transparent marketplace.

The interview with the nationally-recognized public figure and lifelong consumer advocate represents a landmark moment for the podcast, which is created, produced, and hosted by Warwick native, Dave Ursillo Jr. (daveursillo.com).

“Listeners will hear Marta’s family’s origin story of fleeing from Communist Cuba in 1961, and how it inspired her career in public service,” Ursillo says, “She shares the connections between a healthy democracy and a healthy consumer marketplace, and what a consumer-first economy could look like in the near future—if consumers like us harness our consumer rights as civil rights, and start to demand more action.”

The New Story Is an interview-based series that publishes bi-weekly episodes relevant to pressing social, cultural, economic, and political issues including the Great Resignation, gender and equality issues in the workplace, racism in America, and much more.

In its brief history, the show has landed interviews with local journalists, best-selling authors, nationally-acclaimed consultants, and more.

“Our success in landing such impressive guests comes down to the mission we’re on, which asks listeners and public figures alike to consider what stories we as a society have come to believe are unshakably true—then asking, ‘But what if it wasn’t this way?`” Ursillo said.

Tellado has served as Vice President at the Ford Foundation, Executive Director of the Domestic Policy Group at the Aspen Institute, Director for National Issues and Outreach for US Senator Bill Bradley, and Vice President of the Partnership for Public Service. She has led Consumer Reports since 2014. Listeners will be able to stream the interview with Tellado on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major podcasting platforms, on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
