Macera named LEC Player of Week

Rhode Island College junior Lauren Macera (Cranston) and freshman Erica Botelho (Greenville) were recognized by the Little East for their respective performances in a 3-0 week for the Anchorwomen.

Macera was named the Little East Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. She went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles and 3-0 in singles, which included two matches at the top spot. For the season, Macera is  8-0 at No. 1 doubles and 8-0 at primarily No. 2 singles.

Botelho was named the Little East Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week. She went 2-0 at No. 3 doubles and 2-0 at No. 2/3 singles. For the season, Botelho is 7-1 at primarily No. 3 singles and 7-0 at primarily at No. 3 doubles. It is the third time this season that Botelho has received this award.

Head Coach Adam’s Spring’s team earned 9-0 wins over Plymouth State (Oct. 4), Salem State (Oct. 8) and Albertus Magnus (Oct. 9).

RIC is currently 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Little East.

Emily Vogt (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Amanda Hebert (Coventry) were recognized by the Little East for their respective performances at Westfield State’s James Earley Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Vogt was named the Little East Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. She placed 19th (19:42.36).

Hebert was named the Little East Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week. She finished 38th (20:23.32).

RIC placed 15th (25 teams) with a team score of 372.0. Smith won the meet with a score of 45.0. The race was a 5k and there were 167 participants.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15 (10 a.m.).
