Lady Panthers ready to roll

Johnston has moved up to Division I after compiling a record of 45-3 in league and tournament play over the past two seasons, winning back-to-back Division II Championships and advancing to the Final Four of the open State Tournament each of those two years. The Panthers will be competing in Division I-A, which includes defending state champion Moses Brown and defending Division I champ La Salle. Johnston will host East Providence Thursday (Dec. 13) with the junior varsity playing at 4:15 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6 o'clock.

Johnston fared well in its nonleague contests leading up to Thursday's game, defeating Coventry last Thursday (Dec. 6) and posting victories over Burrillville and Ponaganset at this weekend's 9th annual Pink Out Classic.

Gabby DiRaimo, pictured in Sunday's matchup with Ponaganset, was Johnston's second-leading scorer last winter. A first-team All-Division II-North, second-team All-Class and Honorable Mention All-State selection, she is one of six returning seniors, along with Amelia Moore, Cleasia Peoples, Juliana Zalewski, Bianca Robbins and Sophia DaCosta.
