LA demonstrations obstructed ‘lawful actions’

To the Editor:

Bob Sweeney seems to suggest that there is a moral equivalence between the National Guard and Marines deployed to restore law and order in Los Angeles and the rioters and anarchists who would burn the city to the ground. (“Let’s cool the rhetoric in LA,” June 12) I think he is terribly mistaken.
These “demonstrations,” as Mr. Sweeney refers to them, were planned to obstruct the lawful actions of federal ICE agents attempting to arrest illegal immigrants, some of whom were accused of committing violent crimes. ICE agents were acting in the interest of public safety.
Contrary to what Mr. Sweeney suggests, it is not just the “rhetoric” that is causing these “possibly fatal incidents” to occur, it is the rioting. There should be zero tolerance for those who engage in violent demonstrations, no matter the reason for their alleged “discontent.”
