Keeping it in Warwick

Posted

I run an Airbnb in Warwick. In fact, to date, the only licensed Airbnb. I have people visit from all over the world. When they ask me what they should do during their stay, I always recommend that they enjoy all that Warwick has to offer. I have a book in their room filled with interesting ideas.

Of course, a visit to Warwick wouldn’t be complete without a visit to historic Rocky Point. If you haven’t been there in a while, there are lots of things to see. They have placed plaques along the two-mile walk that have all kinds of interesting information. It’s a beautiful walk right on the water with views of the Newport Bridge and the Jamestown Bridge. In addition, the pier construction is almost complete. This will offer a great place to sit and enjoy the view.

If you enjoy walking with a group, join me and my “Rocky Point Pacers” on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays at 5 p.m. We meet at the parking lot at the bottom of Rocky Point Ave. I always urge people to take a ride to the Aldrich Mansion. The movie Meet Joe Black was filmed there and tourists are always interested in seeing where Brad Pitt filmed a movie.

I encourage visitors to check out Oakland Beach and, of course, to try our famous Iggy’s. A visit to Rhode Island wouldn’t be complete without some clam cakes and chowder. I also love Conimicut Beach. There is no charge and it’s a great place to look for sea glass and shells. Wear water shoes because the beach has a shell base. When it’s low tide you can walk out to the lighthouse.

This weekend I tried something new that I want to share with you. I went to the Gamm Theatre and saw the play “Assassins.” This theatre was previously located in Pawtucket and is fairly new to our area. It has a great history. The venue is great. It is an intimate setting, and for this play it was set up like a theatre in the round. There is lots of parking, a nice snack bar and a very friendly staff. The play is fabulous. Check out their website at gammtheatre.org to see upcoming plays. The prices are great, and the fact that it’s right here in Warwick made it easy to enjoy dinner at one of our great restaurants.

So, as you wait for spring and summer to arrive, take some time and get to know your city.
