POSSESSION

Patrolman Michael Schiappa and two other officers responded to Hartford Avenue on the evening of Oct. 19 to attempt to locate a man wanted out of the North Providence Police Department for reckless driving and several other charges.

Communications personnel stated that the person was possibly operating a red sedan, and upon arrival Schiappa and Patrolwoman Kayleigh Cooper located the vehicle parked in front of a redacted location idling with Saysamone Charette, 25, 651 Front St., Woonsocket, inside.

The man was later located, but a RILETS check on the vehicle showed no active registration. Schiappa said Charette told her she owned the vehicle but did not have a chance to register it yet. Further checks showed Charette also did not have an active driver’s license.

A tow truck was called, and as Charette was exiting the vehicle, she said, “Oh wait, I left something of mine in the cup holder.” Schiappa said she attempted to retrieve a clear plastic bag from inside the open center of the cup holder. In plain view, he saw through the driver’s side window a clear plastic bag containing a white rocky substance that appeared to be crack-cocaine. Schiappa said he recognized the substance through his training at the police academy.

Schiappa conducted a search of the vehicle, seizing the plastic bag that contained three separate bags of suspected crack-cocaine. He said there was another clear plastic bag containing eight pills that resembled Ecstasy. Charette was arrested and charged with two counts of felony possession.

Charette was arraigned and released on $5,000 personal recognizance with a pre-arraignment conference set for Nov. 12.

LARCENY

Patrolmen Thomas Santurri and Anthony St. Laurent responded to the Adult Correctional Institutions on the evening of Oct. 16 to take custody of Kenneth White, 52, 30 John St., Johnston.

White was wanted out of the department on a charge of larceny under $1,500. Detective Michael Edwards said that White told him he did not wish to speak with the detective regarding the larceny charge. White was released with a Third Division District Court summons to appear Nov. 16.

White’s arrest stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred on the afternoon of Aug. 17. Patrolman Michael Protano responded to a redacted location in reference to a larceny, which had allegedly occurred the night before. Upon arrival, Protano spoke to the complainant, who said she was informed by one of the workers that two irrigation pumps were stolen from their work truck overnight. She said the pumps were valued at $290 each.

Protano said he reviewed the footage from the night before, observing a white man – later identified as White – stealing the pumps around 10 p.m. He said the man parked in a parking lot, and was later seen walking back up a gravel embankment with the irrigation pumps. Protano said White was only on site for seven minutes.
